Richmond area VEX Robotics teams have been very successful throughout the years. The RVA area is home to one of the most successful high school organizations in the state and quite possibly the most successful middle school organization in the state. 177 Richmond Homeschoolers

Richmond

This independent organization is made up primarily of home-schooled high school students and has been competing since the 2009-2010 Clean Sweep season. Formerly in Gloucester and Hanover Counties, they are now based in the City of Richmond but include students from around the area. They are one of the most successful VEX teams in Virginia, having won three State Championships, two World Championship Division Championships, and appeared in the World Championship Division Elimination Rounds every year for the last five years. They have competed at the World Championship every year since 2011.

Chester (Chesterfield County)

This Chesterfield County Public Schools high school team has been a long-time VEX competitor in the RVA area. They have been competing since the 2009-2010 Clean Sweep season. They typically field three to four teams and routinely compete in the elimination rounds of tournaments.

6740 Team Alvin

Glen Allen (Henrico County)
This is an independent team that has been competing since the 2012-2013 Sack Attack season. Currently fielding two high school teams, Team Alvin is based in Glen Allen but includes students from around the area. They are typically a very competitive team and have qualified all teams for the World Championship every year since the 2013-2014 Toss-Up season.

Glen Allen (Henrico County)

This independent high school team has been competing since the 2014-2015 Skyrise season. Team Semiconductors is based in Glen Allen and currently has two high school teams that include students from around the area. They are typically a very competitive team and have qualified all teams for the World Championship every year they’ve competed. They have been featured on RoboMatter’s Cool Project blog.

This City of Richmond Public Schools team was a new competitor for the 2016-2017 Starstruck season. They had a late start to the season but are looking to move onward and upward and are sure to make great strides in the future.

16118 Robotology

Midlothian (Chesterfield County)

Robotology is a new middle school VRC team for the 2016-2017 Starstruck season. This upstart team shows a lot of promise and is competitive even when playing high school teams. They have already won a tournament, competed at the State Championship, and made the elimination rounds in other tournaments.

17230 Huguenot High School

Richmond

This City of Richmond Public Schools high school team has been competing since the 2015-2016 Nothing but Net season. Huguenot High School typically fields several teams each year and is steadily improving. This competitive organization has qualified all teams for the State Championship every year they’ve competed and is a routine participant in the elimination rounds of tournaments. Huguenot competes both in Robotics Education and Competition Foundation (RECF) events as well as the Technology Student Association (TSA).

This Henrico County Public Schools middle school has been extremely competitive every year they’ve competed and is one of the most successful middle school VEX organizations in Virginia. Holman competes both in RECF events as well as TSA. They started competing during the 2012-2013 Sack Attack season as VRC teams and continued with VRC for the 2013-2014 Toss-Up season. Since the 2014-2015 Highrise season, they have been competing only in VEX IQ. The program has grown since its inception and currently fields seven teams. Holman has won every State Championship they’ve competed in and have qualified multiple teams for the World Championship every year since the 2013-2014 Toss-Up season.

This Henrico County Public Schools elementary school VEX IQ team was a new competitor for the 2016-2017 Crossover season. Even after competing in only one local event, the team made the teamwork finals and qualified for and competed at the State Championship.

50252 Robious Robotics

Midlothian (Chesterfield County)

This independent elementary school VEX IQ team has shown incredible success in its first year (2016-2017 Crossover season). The team has won numerous awards and not only qualified for the World Championship in their first year, but were a finalist in their division at Worlds. They were featured on CBS6’s Building Better Minds.

This very successful team is affiliated with Henrico County Public Schools’ River’s Edge Elementary School. They have been competing in VEX IQ since the 2015-2016 Bank Shot season. River’s Edge has qualified for the World Championship every year that they’ve competed.
